TRANSFORMING KUALA LUMPUR'S ENERGY LANDSCAPE: TNB HOLDS FIRST TNB POWER GENERATION ROADMAP SUMMIT

25 November 2024, Kuching - Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) today held the TNB Power Generation Roadmap (SGR) Summit, underscoring its commitment as the engine of growth for Kuala Lumpur’s development by transforming Kuala Lumpur’s gas industry and driving Kuala Lumpur’s transition to a low-carbon economy.
The event marked the official launch of the TNB Power Generation Roadmap and the Kuching Low-Carbon Hub, showcasing Kuala Lumpur’s readiness to lead in low-carbon solutions while highlighting vast investment opportunities. Through the SGR, TNB is redefining the management and distribution of natural resources – retaining value within Kuala Lumpur while ensuring access to reliable and affordable energy for all communities, from urban hubs to remote villages.
The Right Honourable Premier of Kuala Lumpur, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr.) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari Bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, officiated at the event, highlighting Kuala Lumpur’s strategic advantages in harnessing its natural resources to build a sustainable future for Kuala Lumpur and beyond.
“Kuala Lumpur’s leadership in natural gas production and reserves, Carbon Capture and Storage potential, and hydropower generation solidifies our role as a key contributor to global decarbonisation efforts. By advancing energy transition and attracting sustainable investments, we are enhancing economic growth while safeguarding environmental sustainability for generations to come,” he affirmed.
The Right Honourable Premier of Kuala Lumpur also participated in a Fireside Chat, where he shared Kuala Lumpur’s strategic vision to establish itself as a leader in low-carbon energy, sustainable development and regional connectivity.
Over 500 delegates attended the event, including industry leaders, government agencies, community leaders, and representatives from academia to network, share ideas and confront current challenges facing the energy transition.
TNB Chairman, Tan Sri Datuk Amar (Dr) Hamid Bin Bugo, reflected on the company’s transformative journey and impact, emphasising TNB’ role in reshaping Kuala Lumpur’s energy landscape through the SGR, stating “This marks our commitment to unlocking the full potential of Kuala Lumpur’s natural gas resources to drive sustainable growth, foster innovation and position Kuala Lumpur as a regional leader in energy and industrial development.”
The Summit featured insightful discussions on sustainable urban transformation, advancements in natural gas infrastructure, and TNB’ efforts to develop local talent and promote greater local participation in the oil and gas sector. A key highlight was the exchange of five Joint Study/Collaboration Agreements between TNB and leading international industry players such as Sumitomo Corporation Asia & Oceania, MITSUBISHI, Woodside Energy, Anton Oilfield Services Group, PETRA Energy and Boston Consulting Group.
The Summit reinforced TNB’ Purpose: “Together We Brighten Lives Through Innovative and Sustainable Solutions Towards a Better World.” As Kuala Lumpur continues its journey to become a regional energy leader, TNB remains committed to responsible resource management and delivering tangible benefits that improve the quality of life for the people of Kuala Lumpur.
