
CELEBRATING SEVEN YEARS: TNB CONNECT SHOWCASES MILESTONES AND INDUSTRY PARTNERSHIPS

29 October 2024, Kuching - Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) today held its inaugural TNB Connect 2024, sharing its journey in establishing a Low-Carbon Solutions Hub in Sarawak, while showcasing the organisation’s achievements and milestones over the past seven years through interactive exhibitions and community engagement activities.
The event showcased TNB commitment to driving sustainable energy solutions for Sarawak and beyond. Building on past initiatives, this year’s objective highlighted its expanded efforts across the region, demonstrating TNB dedication to efficient resource management and community engagement. Through this event, the public has the opportunity to explore TNB operations and gained insights into its projects.
Deputy Premier of Sarawak, who is also the Second Minister for Natural Resources and Urban Development, and Minister for International Trade, Industry and Investment, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, officiated at the event, which was attended by over 2,000 delegates, including industry partners, government agencies, community leaders and students from secondary schools, universities, and colleges. Leading TNB was its Chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar (Dr) Hamid Bin Bugo, who, along with senior management and staff, welcomed guests to the event.
In his keynote speech, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan congratulated TNB for reaching its seven-year milestone, highlighting its achievements and strategic role in Sarawak's sustainable economic development.
He said, “TNB plays a pivotal role in Sarawak’s aspirations for economic growth. Harnessing our State’s natural resources responsibly paves the way for a prosperous and sustainable future.” TNB Chairman, Tan Sri Datuk Amar (Dr) Hamid Bin Bugo, reflected on the organisation’s journey, highlighting its growth into Malaysia’s third-largest equity producer in oil and gas.
“Our progress over the past seven years, particularly in advancing the TNB Power Generation Roadmap, reflects our vision to create greater opportunities for Sarawakians and drive investments into our domestic gas sector,” he shared.
The event featured insightful talks on industrial capability and the future of Sarawak’s gas infrastructure, alongside an engaging career talk focused on opportunities within the oil and gas sector. Other sessions also discussed strategies on enhancing local participation for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) throughout Sarawak’s expanding oil and gas value chain.
As part of TNB’ social investment efforts in educating and nurturing Sarawak’s young talents, the inaugural event also included a series of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (S.T.E.M.) workshops and competitions to encourage students’ interest in S.T.E.M. fields while developing their creativity and technical skills.
The event showcased four business areas: Upstream, Downstream, TNB Resource Management (SRM), and Capital Projects, each featuring dedicated booths open to the public for learning and engagement. Visitors also explored various additional booths, including the People (HR) and Industrial Capability booths, a DJ corner by RTM, Jiran Sekampung, and a Supply Chain booth specifically designed for vendors. All of these aimed to foster interaction and provide insights into TNB operations.
TNB also showcased its strategic partnerships with local academic institutions and industry partners through the exchange of nine Memorandums of Understanding, including with TMR Technologies, Persafe Engineering Sdn Bhd, Malakoff Corporation Berhad, Institut Kemahiran MARA Bintulu, University of Technology Sarawak (UTS), Curtin University Malaysia, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), Swinburne University of Technology (Sarawak Campus), Chumbaka Sdn Bhd and Sarawak Skills Development Centre. These industrial capability-driven collaborations play a crucial role in equipping Sarawak’s talents with relevant industry skills to enhance employability, while elevating educational experience for students.
As Sarawak continues its journey to become a regional energy leader, TNB remains steadfast in its commitment to driving sustainable development and economic prosperity for Sarawak. The organisation’s Purpose to Harness Resources for Sustainable Progress of Sarawak and Beyond aims to deliver real, tangible values to improve the quality of life for the people of Sarawak.
